Parsha Corner: Parshas Shelach – Tzitzis

Rabbi Mordy Anton   -

This week’s Parsha includes the Parsha of Tzitzis—the very one we recite every day.

The pasuk says:

“U’risem oso, uzchartem es kol mitzvos Hashem, va’asisem osam, v’lo sasuru acharei levavchem v’acharei eineichem”

“You shall see the tzitzis and remember all the mitzvos of Hashem, and perform them, and not stray after your heart and your eyes.”

Even on a simple level, this pasuk carries a powerful and transformative message. The Sforno explains that just as a master places a visible sign on his servant to remind him of his role, Hashem gives us tzitzis as a daily, visible reminder of our mission and commitment to serve Him—a commitment we took on through accepting the mitzvos.

This small, physical reminder helps guide us away from temporary distractions and toward lives of eternal meaning—a life of nitzchiyus.

What’s especially striking is how this “simple trick” of Hashem—having us wear strings—can lead to such an elevated result. We often think that real change comes from open miracles or dramatic experiences. But this mitzvah shows us how far a small, consistent act can take us. Sometimes the most powerful transformations come not from grand moments, but from simple tools Hashem gives us to keep us focused and grounded.

Wearing tzitzis is a powerful mitzvah—even if we don’t always feel its impact. But when we tap into its message, its greatness multiplies beyond what we can imagine. It becomes a source of protection, inspiration, and spiritual clarity—something we so deeply need.

May we—and all our brothers and sisters around the world—be zocheh to embrace the beauty and power of this simple, yet profound mitzvah.

Have a wonderful Shabbos!
